Ecosaga (2D Platformer)
Project Overview:
"Keep the Ecosystem Balance!" is a platformer shooter game designed specifically for the UCSC SVC Hackathon, centered around the theme of sustainability. Players navigate an alien planet, managing resources and engaging in strategic combat to maintain ecological stability. The game's core mechanic emphasizes careful management of ecosystem balance amidst action-oriented gameplay.
My Role – Art and Visual Development:
My main responsibility was creating the visual identity of the game within the hackathon's tight deadline. This included:
Character and Environment Art: Designed and produced all character sprites, enemies, and environment assets. I focused on clear visual distinction to help players quickly recognize interactive elements and threats during fast-paced gameplay.
Animation and Visual Feedback: Crafted animations to enhance responsiveness in player controls, enemy behaviors, and environmental interactions, ensuring gameplay clarity.
Asset Integration: Coordinated closely with Alec (programmer and art import specialist) to efficiently integrate assets into Unity, quickly resolving visual and technical issues as they emerged.
Collaboration and Team Contributions:
Sihao Chen: Core gameplay programming, player controls, and combat mechanics.
Davide: Sound design, implementation, and supporting gameplay programming.
Alec: Additional programming, art implementation, and support with Unity integration.
